Canal Cheong Jagerroos (b.1968), is an established Chinese contemporary artist who grew up in an artistic family in Macau. Over the past three decades, she has developed a diverse artistic practice shaped by her experiences of living and working across Asia, Europe, Africa, and Scandinavia.

Working across painting, installation, and mixed media, Cheong Jagerroos explores themes of identity, place, movement, memory, and belonging. Her work reflects a continuous dialogue between different cultures and environments, drawing on her experiences of living between geographical, cultural, and artistic contexts. This perspective has shaped a distinctive visual language that is both personal and universal.

Her work has been exhibited extensively internationally, including at Korundi Rovaniemi Art Museum, Joensuu Art Museum, Jyväskylä Art Museum, Salo Art Museum, and Xi’an Art Museum, as well as at international art fairs and other major cultural venues. In 2026, her work is presented at Meilahti Art Hall in Helsinki.

Since 2017, Cheong Jagerroos has developed Floating Island, an ongoing installation project that explores the fragile and transient nature of existence. The floating island becomes a metaphor for the human search for stability, identity, and a sense of belonging in a constantly changing world. The project invites reflection on displacement and migration while also considering humanity’s relationship with the natural environment.

In addition to Floating Island, Cheong Jagerroos is the co-founder of the Blue and Red project, which was presented at numerous art museums in China and Finland between 2018 and 2020.

Cheong Jagerroos currently lives and works between Helsinki, Shanghai, and Berlin.
